Having your Chimney and appliance inspected over time eliminates having problems in the future. Your chimney is a part of the house that can often go unnoticed until problems arise and can be expensive to fix. Knowing what to look for and how to maintain your chimney and appliance properly will ensure your safety and longevity for both your chimney and home.
Inspecting chimneys can tell a lot about the history of the home. We can tell how the chimney has been maintained and if there have been any adaptations. We look at all parts of the chimney and make sure there isn’t any water or other outside elements coming in and causing damage. A chimney cleaning or sweep most likely needs to be done to conduct a thorough inspection.
With our Level 1 inspections, we study the readily accessible places and make sure that the structure of the flue and chimney are sound and strong inside and outside. Outside and above the roofline we check for any water intrusion that can happen due to the high amounts of rain that we receive in Western North Carolina. Every chimney is different and many variables are included when thinking about what the chimney may need, if anything.
Typically if the level 1 inspection brings about suspicions or if there is a real-estate transaction, we will offer a Level 2 inspection with a camera scan. Older homes or chimneys that have been neglected may need a camera video scan to see any degradation deep inside the chimney that we can’t see from the top or bottom.
As a homeowner, once you know more about your chimney you will know how to properly maintain and use it. We provide reminder services each year if you need it and are always available to talk through any questions our customers may have over the phone. We strive to help our community stay safe and knowledgeable when burning wood inside the home.
